Sixth Convocation Held at Xiamen University Malaysia

On 28 and 29 September, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) held the five ceremonies of its Sixth Convocation for the graduating class of 2024, with more than 2,900 students, parents, faculty members and guests attending. 

 

President of Board of Engineers Malaysia, YBhg. Datuk Ir. Ahmad Redza bin Ghulam Rasool, and Chargés d'affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia, Mr. Zheng Xuefang attended the First Ceremony as the Guests of Honour, while Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, Guest Professor of Xiamen University, is the Guest of Honour for the Second Ceremony. Xiamen Univesity President Prof. Zhang Zongyi came all the way from China to award the degrees to the graduands. Prof. Wang Ruifang, President of Xiamen University Malaysia, also took part in this joyous celebration. 

 

This year, XMUM’s Bachelor’s degree programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Physics, and English Language and Literature proudly presented their first cohort of graduands. A total of 1,419 students from 19 undergraduate and 5 postgraduate programmes graduated from XMUM, including 804 local Malaysian students and 615 international students. 

 

XMUM graduates are highly valued in the job market, favoured not only by Chinese companies and its overseas branches, but also by international companies seeking to expand in Asian market. Many recent XMUM graduates have joined industry-leading companies, such as Intel, Huawei, Tencent, Baidu, Deloitte, KPMG, EY, Bank of China, ICBC, Maybank, Public Bank, UOB Bank, AIA, Accenture, Alliance, Lazada, 3M, BYD, IOI Group, Genting and Edra Power. 

 

For those seeking to pursue further studies in other countries after completing undergraduate programmes at XMUM, the university can serve as the steppingstone to some of the best universities in the world. Many XMUM graduates have received offers for postgraduate study from world-renowned universities, such as Oxford University, Cambridge University, Imperial College London, in the UK; Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, Cornell University, Duke University, New York University, Northwestern University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Wisconsin– Madison, in the US; National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, in Singapore; University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, Australian National University, University of Queensland, in Australia; as well as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, University of Hong Kong, University of Tokyo, among many others. 

 

As of September 2024, XMUM has a student enrolment of more than 8,500 students from 48 countries and regions, such as Malaysia, China, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, United States, Canada, Argentina, Egypt, Zambia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. XMUM has built up an internationalized, diverse and high-caliber faculty team, with about 300 full-time academic staff, of which more than 80% are doctoral degree holders.
