Illuminating the Future with Light Enabling Technologies

Illuminating the Future with Light Enabling Technologies

In the view of global power and energy requirements, optoelectronics and light enabling technologies are presently attracting a lot of attention due to their simultaneous achievement and extensive usage in household and commercial applications, and as an abundant source of clean and renewable energy. Several daily-life areas of application include optoelectronic devices for instance LED lighting systems for illumination, photo- and laser-diodes, optical sensors and solar cells. The market was valued at USD 78.24 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach USD 298.38 billion by 2030 and grow at a CAGR of 19.2% over the forecast period (2023 - 2030). The energy-efficient systems enable major energy-saving and substantial carbon emission reduction, in agreement with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announcement to reduce the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 as part of nations’ responsibilities toward overall global climate targets.

The overarching goal of the Kelip-kelip! Center of Excellence for Light Enabling Technologies is to make a collective use of our capabilities and strengths in promoting science, engineering, and technologies. The Kelip-kelip! CoE will bring together experts from different disciplines and provide them a platform to share facilities and resources. It will also support and sustain the talent pool creation for meeting industry demand. This makes a great contribution in developing scientific environment at XMUM, encouraging new research ideas, and offering new prospects of interdisciplinary, domestic, and international level scientific team work as well as collaboration with the industrial partners. Our Kelip-kelip! CoE will approach the forefront scientific and technology development by addressing a comprehensive range of problems and their solutions ranging from fundamental physics, photonics, organic chemistry to engineering. With our joint forces in light enabling technologies at large scale across the campus, we intend to make a strong impact in advancing both the science and technology but also in the translational research carrying ideas from the lab to the market.

Vision

To be strategically positioned as one of the top Center of Excellence in light enabling technologies in Asia Pacific.

Mission

To function as world-class research and development catalyst for feasible commercialization of light enabling technologies for the prosperity of community.
