School of Energy and Chemical Engineering (SECE): Empowering education for a brighter future. Established in 2016, SECE is a prominent school within XMUM, nurturing professionals in energy and chemical engineering. Our main campus, Xiamen University, China, was founded in 1921 by Malayan Chinese educator Mr. Tan Kah Kee. XMUM is the first overseas campus by a renowned Chinese university and the first Chinese university branch campus in Malaysia, upholding Mr. Tan's spirit of educational devotion.
SECE offers programs in Chemical Engineering and New Energy Science and Engineering. We attract a diverse student body, creating a multicultural learning environment. We provide Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. programs, designed to give students a strong foundation in energy and chemical engineering and specialized knowledge to tackle industry challenges.

Academic Excellence and Recognition
Our commitment to academic excellence is evident in the recognition we have received. The Chemical Engineering programme is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia (EAC), enabling our graduates to be recognized by engineering organizations in countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord. This recognition provides them with the opportunity to become registered engineers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and other participating nations.
The New Energy Science and Engineering programme equips students with the knowledge and skills to develop and implement efficient, clean, renewable, and sustainable energy technologies, addressing global energy challenges.
Programmes offered under SECE comply with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) standards, recognized internationally, with dual accreditation by both the Malaysian and Chinese governments. This opens doors for employment and further studies in both countries, with international recognition for their achievements.
We embrace a global perspective in our teaching approach. All courses are conducted in English, promoting students' English proficiency and facilitating their transition to continue higher studies abroad, particularly in English-speaking countries. We have established collaborations with prestigious universities worldwide, ensuring that our students receive a top-quality education and become globally competent individuals.
Research and Innovations
We encourage our students to engage in groundbreaking research during their undergraduate years, exploring various areas of chemical engineering and new energy science. Through these research initiatives, our students have published numerous papers in high-impact journals, showcasing their scholarly achievements and contributions to the scientific community.
SECE organizes student exchanges, visits to local businesses in Malaysia, and extensive exchanges with Xiamen University's main campus in China. These opportunities allow our students to develop their abilities, foster teamwork, and expand their horizons.
In conjunction with XMUM's fifth-anniversary celebration and with the support of school leaders, the school established TWO (2) Center of Excellence under the university's flagship. There are called the Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy & Catalysis Technology (CONNECT) under the directorship of Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun and Kelip-Kelip! Center of Excellence for Light Enabling Technologies under the directorship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Swee Tiam to promote extensive cooperation with the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), research institutions, and the industrial sector in multidisciplinary research to align with national policies and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, accelerating Industry 4.0.

As the Dean of SECE, I am honored to be part of an institution that carries a rich legacy, rooted in the visionary spirit of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, the founder of our main campus, Xiamen University, China (XMU). Mr. Tan Kah Kee, has made an unforgettable impact in the field of education. His legacy as a world-renowned educator, who devoted his entire life to the noble pursuit of education, serves as an unwavering inspiration for all of us at XMUM.
SECE was established in 2016. Since then, we have consistently attracted bright minds from across the globe, fostering a multicultural learning environment that nurtures creativity and diversity. Through rigorous academic programmes, cutting-edge research, and a commitment to excellence, we strive to equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and global perspective necessary to address the challenges of the modern world.
Our school offers programmes in the field of Chemical Engineering as well as New Energy Science and Engineering. With English as the medium of instruction, we provide an immersive learning environment that enhances students' language proficiency, preparing them for success in the global arena.
