Chemical Engineering Student Receives Best Presentation Award at PCVS 2024 for Research on Acetone Production
The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Tee Meng Yang, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Vincent Woon Kok Sin, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tan Jian Ping and Asst. Prof. Dr. Mong Guo Ren from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, for publishing an article in the Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis.
The Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis (JAAP) is devoted to the publication of papers dealing with innovative applications of pyrolysis processes, the characterization of products related to pyrolysis reactions, and investigations of reaction mechanism, is an SCI Q1 journal with an impact factor of 5.8.
With the title “Unveiling the dynamics of solid waste co-pyrolysis through thermogravimetric analysis and kinetic analysis for technological upscaling (2001–2022)”, this research was supported by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia through the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme [FRGS/1/2022/TK08/XMU/03/1]; Xiamen University Malaysia through the Xiamen University Malaysia Research Fund [XMUMRF/2023-C11/IENG/0055].
Pyrolysis technology offers a sustainable approach to waste management and energy production, aligning with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By converting organic waste into valuable products like bio-oil, syngas, and char, pyrolysis contributes to a circular economy by reducing waste and promoting resource efficiency. This process also supports climate action by preventing the release of harmful greenhouse gases from landfills and providing a renewable energy source. Additionally, pyrolysis can promote industrial development and create jobs in the waste management and bioenergy sectors, contributing to economic growth and innovation.
The findings in this study are expected to analyse the knowledge map on co-pyrolysis kinetics research, enabling a more accurate assessment of future research directions when selecting appropriate feedstock blends for larger-scale co-pyrolysis experiments.
