Angewandte Chemie's Dr. Su Xin Speaks on Scientific Writing and Publishing at XMUM
On 19 July 2024, Dr. Su Xin, Executive Editor of Angewandte Chemie International Edition, delivered a highly enlightening talk titled "Angewandte Chemie (IF=16.1): Scientific Writing and Publishing in the Wiley-VCH Publisher" at Xiamen University Malaysia.
The event was a collaborative effort of the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering (SECE), the Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy and Catalysis Technology (CONNECT), and the Research and Postgraduate Center (RPC), attracting significant attention from both faculty and students.
Dr. Su Xin received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Dartmouth College, USA, in 2013. His extensive background includes postdoctoral training at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) and previous roles as an associate editor for Wiley's materials science journals, including Advanced Materials, and senior editor for Nature Chemistry at SpringerNature. Angewandte Chemie is one of the world's leading chemistry journals with an Impact Factor of 16.1 and ranking 13th out of 230 in multidisciplinary chemistry. Dr. Su has been with the editorial team of Angewandte Chemie since 2018 and currently serves as its Executive Editor.
In this hour-long talk, Dr. Su Xin provided valuable insights into the peer review process of Angewandte Chemie. He offered practical strategies for interpreting and responding to referee reports and shared tips for crafting manuscripts that capture the attention of editors. His perspective as an executive editor provided attendees with a unique and in-depth understanding of the publishing process.
The event also featured a Q&A Forum with Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun (Director of CONNECT as well as SECE’s Assistant Dean as the Lead Panellist) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haw Choon Yian (Head of Programme for Master in New Energy Science and Engineering, SECE as the Second Panellist). The audience engaged actively, posing critical questions and contributing to a stimulating discussion, covering a range of current issues and trends, including citation practices and the impact of AI on scientific writing. Dr. Su expressed his appreciation for the engaging dialogue and the thoughtful questions raised by the participants.
