The MSc and PhD in Chemical Engineering (research mode) at the Xiamen  University  Malaysia  (XMUM)  offer  innovative  courses delivered  by  highly-qualified  staff  with  excellent  academic reputation,  adopting  a  dynamic  approach  and  with  many  years  of research  experience  in  areas  including  catalysis  and  reactions, membrane  science  and  technology,  nanomaterials,  chemical processes,  clean  energy,  process  design  optimisation,  safety,  and environmental  protection.  Our research laboratories are well-equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, enabling students to focus on the programme by conducting their own research projects in their specialised field of study.

The PEOs are to produce graduates who: -

  1. Graduates with the capability to integrate knowledge and apply practical, digital and numeracy skills in resolving problems in chemical engineering and related fields.
  2. Graduates with interpersonal and communication abilities to work closely with peers, scholarly communities and stakeholders, while displaying leadership qualities in various events.
  3. Graduates with ethical values and professionalism, and pursuing life-long personal and sustainable developments.

At the end of the programme, graduates are able to:

  1. Knowledge and Understanding - Demonstrate frontier knowledge and good understandings in the chemical engineering field of research.
  2. Cognitive Skills - Critically and creatively apply knowledge in one or more fields to resolve research problems.
  3. Practical Skills - Conduct rigorous and independent research or investigation with minimal supervision.
  4. Interpersonal Skills - Work collaboratively with peers, and interact well with scholarly communities.
  5. Communication Skills - Convey research ideas and findings effectively through oral and written communication in academic events.
  6. Digital Skills - Use suitable digital tools/techniques to solve research problems.
  7. Numeracy Skills - Evaluate information using mathematical concepts, statistical tools or graphical methods.
  8. Leadership, Autonomy and Responsibility - Function effectively as leader as well as team player to take responsibilities, making decisions and provide accountability at organizational level.
  9. Personal Skills - Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning and personal development.
  10. Entrepreneurial Skills - Identify commercial potential of research findings, and/or initiate/plan an entrepreneurial project with innovative ideas.
