About Me
Dr. Terri Lee received her Ph.D. Degree in Analytical Chemistry from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. Her research interest focuses on Biomass Valorization studies and development of Eco-friendly Biosorbent for water and wastewater treatment applications. Her studies include development of Biosorbent for removal of organic and inorganic pollutants including Organic Carbon, Ammonia, heavy metals, dyes as well as new emerging pollutants. Apart from that, she is also interested in environmental monitoring studies using various analytical instruments to assess the level of environmental pollution.

Research Interest
Agricultural practices and food industries produce enormous amount of wastes up to hundreds million tons annually. The waste generated has alerts the needs of converting the biomass waste into value-added products instead of direct combustion or natural decomposition which will lead to unfavorable environmental impacts such as greenhouse effect and soil pollution. The huge amount of biomass wastes generated could be a promising source of raw materials to be used in other economic sectors. Reutilization and conversion of biomass into value-added products is an alternative to overcome the over-flowing wastes to landfills and potential substitute for synthetic materials. Managing agriculture by products via a greener approach is vital to achieve sustainable agriculture activities. Biomass can be transformed into biosorbent to separate pollutants from water. The substrates employed include oil palm empty fruit bunch, rice husk, coconut husk, coconut copra and sugarcane bagasse. Chemical treatments applied will be tailored towards low toxicity and environmentally sustainable approach to prevent secondary pollution from biosorbent applied.
