About Me

Dr. Chong is currently an Assistant Professor at School of Energy and Chemical Engineering (SECE), Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM). She was the Recipient of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship awarded by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council in 2014. Furthermore, with an Overseas Research Award supported by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), she spent 6 months in Zhejiang University in 2016 as visiting scholar. In addition to publishing her work in peer-reviewed journal articles, she also supervises postgraduate and undergraduate student research projects; serves as a reviewer for Elsevier and Royal Society of Chemistry publishing groups.

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, 2018
  • Master of Science in Advanced Material, University of Malaya, Malaysia, 2014
  • Bachelor of Science (Hons) Physics, University of Malaya, Malaysia, 2011

  • Guest Editor for MDPI Materials: Special issue “Microenvironment Studies of Battery Electrode Materials” March - November 2023

Research Interest

Dr. Chong’s research interest mainly lies in the design, fabricate and characterization of advanced energy materials and devices, such as rechargeable and flexible batteries. In particular, she developed a novel strategy to prepare fibrous electrodes for a strain-compliant, cable-shaped Li-sulfur batteries with a high energy density. Her current research interest primarily focuses on the design and synthesis of nanomaterials for renewable electrochemical energy for tropical climates.
