About Me
Dr. Abdul Khaliq Rasheed is currently an Assistant Professor at School of New Energy Science and Engineering (SECE), Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM). Previously, he held a position as Senior Research Fellow at the Sunway Centre for Electrochemical Energy and Sustainable Technology (formerly the Graphene and Advanced 2D Materials Research Group) at Sunway University, Malaysia.
Dr. Rasheed's academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, India. He furthered his studies with a Master's degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia and a PhD from the University of Nottingham in 2017.
He worked as a Project Associate at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2009. Currently, his research work includes nanolubricants, nano-bio-heat transfer, tribology, sustainable and clean energy technologies and entrepreneurship. He has published more than 25 papers in peer reviewed international journals and conferences. He is also recipient of various awards and has been an invited speaker in various international conferences, seminars and technical forums. Besides engineering and management courses, Dr. Rasheed teaches Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development at Xiamen University.
Dr. Rasheed co-founded Micratto Technologies, a company specializing on graphene-based lubricants funded under the National Graphene Action Plan of Malaysia; During the Covid’19 pandemic, he co-founded IT Expert Consultancy (iTec) and Beebag (now BUZZ) in Malaysia. In 2023 he founded Mekaniku, an aggregator platform for car services. The cumulative valuation of his startups exceed RM10 million. Since 2020, Dr. Rasheed has mentored several entrepreneurs through a series of initiatives including workshops, seminars and personal mentoring.
Dr. Rasheed's influence extends beyond startups. As a consultant for Saudi’s Ajlan & Bros Holding Group, he facilitated securing $7.5 billion in potential investment opportunities for Malaysia. He has also lent his expertise as an advisor and consultant to graphene and lubricant projects.

Research Interest
Dr. Rasheed's research delves into the exciting realm of nanomaterials, specifically focusing on their potential to revolutionize lubrication and cooling in the world of engines and energy applications. Driven by a passion for sustainability, Dr. Rasheed explores how these innovative materials can significantly reduce friction and heat generation, leading to improved efficiency across various sectors.
Graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms, boasts remarkable properties that make it a game-changer in lubricant design. Dr. Rasheed's research investigates the development of graphene-based lubricants for engines and energy applications. These lubricants could potentially minimize friction between moving parts, leading to reduced wear and tear, improved fuel economy, and ultimately, lower emissions.
Beyond lubrication, Dr. Rasheed's research also explores the potential of other nanomaterials for heat transfer applications within engines and energy systems. These materials hold promise for developing advanced coolants with superior heat conductivity, allowing for more efficient heat dissipation. This could prevent overheating in critical components, further enhancing engine performance and reducing energy consumption.
By delving into these innovative materials, Dr. Rasheed aims to contribute to the development of next-generation lubricants and cooling technologies that foster a cleaner and more efficient future for engines and energy applications.
